All Canterbury staff professionals are PGA qualified and experienced in providing lessons at every level. Our professionals are also SafeGolf accredited, which means they are qualified to provide coaching and instruction to children.

Golf coaching is all about you and what you want to get out of your game. We pride ourselves on being good listeners and aim to provide the best possible professional advice. whilst ensuring each lesson is tailored and enjoyable for the golfer.

PGA Head Professional

Richard Wallis

Richard arrived at Canterbury in 2016 with an impressive playing record and a sound coaching reputation. He has won numerous county, regional, and national competitions – most notably the PGA National Play-Offs title on two occasions – and has played on the European Tour and the Challenge Tour and has more than 130 professional wins to his credit. In 2013, he went into the Guinness Book of World Records after shooting a 14-under-par 59 in the PGA Southern Open Championship Pro-Am at Drift GC in Surrey. And, for good measure, in September 2016, Richard set a new Canterbury course record in winning the Kent PGA Championship. In recent years, he has used his wealth of playing and PGA experiences to become a highly successful and popular teaching professional covering all aspects of the game.

Fred Dores

Fred originally from Cornwall arrived at Canterbury in November 2024, his latest move in a coaching career that has taken him from one side of the globe to the other, during which he’s gained considerable experience coaching at every level. His first overseas placement after qualifying was in Mexico before he moved onto spend three years in Thailand and then 14 more in Indonesia coaching Asian Tour and OneAsia Tour professionals along with re-inventing junior academies in Jakarta and branched into corporate golf. He returned to the UK in 2016.Fred is also a qualified Master Custom Fitter. Before joining Canterbury he coached at Pachesham Golf Centre in Leatherhead. Fred’s specialities are:The Short gameDeveloping Creative Shot-Making SkillsThe Mental Game.

PGA Teaching Professional

Simon Page

Simon has been a PGA Teaching Professional since 2000, earning a reputation for delivering simple, effective coaching to golfers of all ages and abilities. Drawing on over a decade of experience as a tournament professional, he combines sound swing fundamentals with practical knowledge gained from competing at the highest level.

Renowned for his short game coaching, Simon works with everyone from complete beginners and juniors to elite amateurs, professionals and tour players. He also leads a thriving Junior Academy, helping to introduce the next generation to golf in a fun and supportive environment.

Using modern video analysis and coaching technology, Simon helps golfers better understand their swing and make lasting improvements.

During his playing career, Simon won more than 35 professional events, including the Kent Open, competed on the British and European Challenge Tours, and played internationally in South Africa, Asia and the USA.

PGA Golf Tuition at Canterbury Golf Club

Led by PGA Head Professional Richard Wallis, our coaching programme offers high-quality instruction for all abilities, from beginners to experienced players.

With a highly skilled team and excellent facilities, we deliver a first-class coaching experience through both group and individual sessions. Lessons will cover:

  • Fundamentals
  • Swing technique

Facilities

The range features spacious covered bays, high-quality two-piece practice balls, club hire, two putting greens, a grass pitching area and a practice bunker. PGA professionals are on site and available for lessons at any level. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Range Balls Visitor Prices

The range is a cashless facility. Balls are purchased by swipe card — members top up at the range desk, by coin slot, or by calling 01227 453532 (option 3).

30 balls - £4.50 60 balls - £8.00 90 balls - £11.50

Academy Membership — £105 per year

Open to non-club members, Academy Membership gives you discounted range access, access to group coaching and a members’ rate swipe card. It’s the ideal entry point for beginners and improvers who want to use the range regularly.

Opening Times

The range is open Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm (last balls at 8pm). Saturday and Sundays 8am to 7pm (last balls at 6pm)
