Sprinkler heads

Sprinkler heads are an immovable obstruction. In some circumstances, you can get relief from them by taking a free drop (rule 24-2).

You get free relief if:

  • •Your ball comes to rest on the sprinkler head.
  • •When you take up your normal stance, your foot is on the sprinkler head; see the photograph below.
  • •The sprinkler head interferes with your normal swing.
  • •The sprinkler head lies between you and your intended line of play.
Note: you must be within two club lengths of the sprinkler head for this rule to apply (local rule 4).
