Winter rules

Winter rules came into effect on Friday, 3rd November 2017

A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position.

Having lifted the ball, it must be placed on a spot within six inches (150mm) of its original position and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green. A player may place the ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed.

(If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, the player will incur a penalty of one stroke.)

Penalty for other breaches of this local rule: Match play - Loss of hole. Stroke play - Two strokes.

(This also applies to the par-three holes where they are closely mown)

The normal Rules of Golf (25-2 Embedded Ball) apply "through the green".

In addition a ball in the rough embedded in the ground in its own pitchmark may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay, still in the rough and not nearer the hole.

Members are reminded that a ball buried in deep grass is not necessarily embedded in the ground and relief would therefore not be appropriate under this rule. Approval from one's

opponent should be sought before invoking the rule in each case.

Temporary Greens are GUR and play is prohibited from them when they are not in use.
