New Course Record

In 1947, the Wildernesse Professional, Sam King, playing in the Kent Professional Golf Union tournament, had a morning round of 64, and so broke the course record of 67 which he had established in 1934, and which had subsequently been broken by Douglas Grant in 1936.

He followed this up with a round of 65 in the afternoon, and so with a grand total of 129, won the President’s Cup by 12 shots from W. Pierce of Rye. The KPGU Medal was won by S. J. Brandon of Canterbury Golf Club.  “Throughout the two-day tournament the course played easily,” reported the Kentish Gazette!
