Meet our Club Officers 2014 / 2015

 

CLUB SECRETARY : Jonathan Webb

 

Jonathan has been Club Secretary at Canterbury Golf Club since August 2010  

Gloucestershire-born Mr Webb is 53 years old, married to Elizabeth, and lives in Chilham near Canterbury.

Jonathan spent 25 years in the Army as a Royal Military Policeman rising to the rank of Warrant Officer I and the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major.

Having left the Army thirteen years ago, Jonathan has been employed in middle management posts in and around the rail industry. For the five years prior to joining the golf club, Jonathan was operations manager with a major Kent-based land and vegetation management company.

 

 

Widely travelled - his military career took him to Germany, Hong Kong, Northern Ireland, Belgium, the United  States and Jamaica.

Although new to golf, Jonathan is working hard to improve his game and lower his handicap.

Since joining the Club, Jonathan has become a member of the Golf Club Managers Association and was a speaker at their National Conference in 2014.

MENS CAPTAIN : Hubert Whyte

 

Hubert Whyte, known commonly as Bert, is a native of Kent and spent most of his school summers working on Canterbury Golf Course.

Bert lives in Herne Bay and is married to Jayne, also Kent born, and they have four older children, 2 boys and 2 girls.

A career in communication technology allowed Bert the opportunity to travel the world including 6 years as CEO and President of a New York Stock Exchange listed company, namely Network Equipment Technologies. Located in Silicon Valley near San Jose Bert was able to enjoy golf on some of the world's most famous courses, typically under stunning blue skies.

Bert retired 5 years ago and has spent much of this time attempting, with some success, to improve his golf handicap.

As Captain, he welcomes the opportunity to support the club's activities, particularly during this period of significant change.

 

 

 

LADIES CAPTAIN : Christine Bowles

 

Christine Bowles is Canterbury born and bred, educated at Simon Langton Girls School and is married with 3 children. Christine's job history includes having worked as a Business Manager in Private Hospital and Executive Health Care insurance, as a Restaurant manager and finally working for 9 years in the Club Secretary’s office before retirement.

Christine's interests include traveling and cooking and taking up playing Golf has been quite recent which means Christine can identify with high handicappers and their needs.  She is thoroughly enjoying the challenges of improving her game and club life in general. 

To be elected as Ladies Captain was a surprise and a great honour and she looks forward to making a worthwhile contribution in her official capacity!
