Canterbury Golf Club

Juniors

Canterbury has a vibrant Juniors' Section that is going from strength to strength under the guidance of junior organiser Elizabeth Carlotti and Kent Golf Academy coach Gareth Bailey, who is the professional responsible for tutoring and developing the club's youngsters.

Elizabeth Carlotti

Elizabeth, a retired maths teacher at Canterbury High School, is married to single-figure handicap player Sandro, who introduced her to golf around 20 years ago, when they were living in Derby. The couple have four children between the ages of seven and 14 and all of them are golfers and members at Canterbury. The eldest, Claudia, is this year’s girls’ junior captain.

In 2020, Elizabeth became junior section organiser and is responsible for organising competitions for the youngsters. She also holds blue tee meets for the younger members who have had range lessons but need to gain experience on the course.

The club competes in the Junior East Kent League and the Srixon League and some members have also participated in junior opens and county competitions.

Gareth Bailey

PGA-qualified Gareth has 20 years’ experience as a golf instructor and organises individual tuition and group lessons for juniors. Individual coaching is available for youngsters who are developing swiftly or displaying exceptional potential, while the group classes provide a greater variety of fun-based skills, with the topic changing from week to week.

Such classes are in particular demand during the school holidays, when parents can leave their children to enjoy themselves in a safe and friendly environment.
